The Campfire Model: Echoes of the past in the age of agent-driven development
Discover The Campfire Model: Steve Yegge’s proposal prioritizing human collaboration and creativity over AI-driven software development.
In
the fast-paced world of software development, the challenges posed by obsolete code (Legacy Systems, Legacy Code), and “the Legacy Trap” are real and impactful.
Many companies, leaders in their fields globally, have their businesses built on systems from the 80s.

This led me to write the whitepaper “GeneXus: Overcoming the Legacy Trap and Promoting Sustainability in Software Development,” where I share the critical issues faced by companies and developers, along with the solution that permanently addresses the problem of obsolescence: GeneXus.
I have 22 years of experience in the IT industry, with 12 years being part of the GeneXus team. This has made me passionate about sustainable and innovative software development.
During this time, I have witnessed new technologies, languages, companies, and platforms emerge, grow, and disappear due to their inability to evolve.
I have also seen the recurrence of the same problems because similar decisions are made with each new generation of entrepreneurs, companies, and developers.
At the same time, I have observed how GeneXus faces the challenge of evolution in an innovative way. Not only by evolving as a platform but also by enabling its users to transition from one technology to another with less friction and at high speed.
That’s why I wrote this document, to shed light on the challenges of obsolete code and how GeneXus stands as a strategic ally to overcome the “Legacy Systems Trap.”
The whitepaper aims to demonstrate that it is possible to empower companies and developers to break free from the chains of obsolete code, fostering growth and adaptability in a constantly evolving technological landscape.
Understanding the “Legacy Trap” is crucial for companies aiming to stay competitive and for developers seeking to evolve in their careers and their ability to build business systems that can evolve over time.
This document also addresses the human cost of obsolete code, illustrating how GeneXus allows addressing business challenges and the impact on the well-being and professional growth of developers.
