GeneXus Meeting – GX30
From November 28 to 30, 2023, at the Radisson Hotel in Montevideo, Uruguay. Register for free
Nicolás Jodal is the CEO of GeneXus, the Software Development Platform that simplifies and automates the tasks of creating, evolving, and maintaining Critical Mission Solutions with Artificial Intelligence.
He has been doing this for over 30 years, since he became the co-founder of GeneXus alongside Breogán Gonda.
Nicolás has a very dynamic profile, and he’s always up to something: in work meetings, giving press interviews, or as a speaker at some event.
His office is at the main headquarters of GeneXus in Montevideo, Uruguay, where you can see him walking fast, chatting in the hallways about anything, or even standing in line at lunchtime.
During one of those breaks, I asked him to answer 10 questions, none related to his work or technology.
The reason for this unusual interview is simple: to explore the personality and interests of the man behind the CEO of GeneXus.
The result? Answers that show that in a world dominated by technology, what’s human remains the most important.
“Ichak Adizes.”
“Being able to build what we wanted.”
“My father.”
“Freedom.”
“Freedom.”
“Certainty.”
“Artificial Intelligence.”
“Yes, a rubber band.”
“Developing a self-operating robot for a greenhouse.”
“Dominating Change, by Ichak Adizes.”
Nicolás Jodal is Uruguayan. He graduated as a Systems Engineer from the University of the Republic (UDELAR), the largest public university in Uruguay.
In 1989, after five years of research and project implementations, he became the co-founder of GeneXus alongside engineer Breogán Gonda.
For the creation of GeneXus, they both received the National Engineering Award from the National Academy of Engineering of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay.
In 2020, Jodal was part of the Uruguayan government’s digital strategy to curb the advance of COVID-19, leading the private sector that created the Coronavirus UY application.
For his contributions to society during the pandemic, that year he received the 500 Years of the Strait of Magellan Award, granted by the Government of Chile.
Since June 2022, GeneXus is part of Globant’s product division, Globant X, of Globant (NYSE: GLOB), a native digital company focused on reinventing businesses through innovative technological solutions.
Currently, the development platform is used in 50 countries.
